Dalam sebuah penelitian yang diterbitkan di JAMA Internal Medicine menemukan bahwa sauna aman untuk orang yang memiliki penyakit jantung dan juga bisa menyehatkan jantung.
"Penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya kaitan antara sauna dengan jantung yang sehat. Namun penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui dengan pasti mengapa sauna bisa membuat jantung lebih sehat," ungkap peneliti seperti dilansir oleh Medical Daily (23/02).
Peneliti melakukan pengamatan terhadap 2.314 pria berusia 42 sampai 60 tahun di Finlandia. Mereka mengamati risiko terjadinya berbagai masalah jantung seperti kematian mendadak akibat serangan jantung, penyakit jantung koroner fatal, dan penyakit kardiovaskular fatal. Setelah diamati selama 21 tahun, diketahui bahwa risiko mengalami masalah jantung lebih rendah pada pria yang lebih sering mandi sauna.
Pria yang melakukan sauna empat hingga tujuh kali seminggu memiliki risiko terkena masalah jantung 63 persen lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan orang yang hanya satu kali melakukan mandi sauna per minggu. Sementara itu, orang yang menghabiskan waktunya lebih dari 19 menit di dalam sauna memiliki risiko terkena penyakit jantung fatal 50 persen lebih rendah dibandingkan yang hanya menghabiskan waktu kurang dari 19 menit.
"Meski kami belum mengetahui mekanisme mengapa mandi sauna bisa melindungi kesehatan jantung, namun jelas bahwa waktu yang dihabiskan di sauna tidak sia-sia untuk kesehatan," ungka Dr Rita F Redberg dari University of California.
Menurut penelitian di Harvard Medical School, panas kering yang dihasilkan di sauna bisa membuat temperatur tubuh meningkat dan berkeringat. Saat itu detak jantung meningkat hingga 30 persen dan memompa darah dua kali lebih banyak. Kemungkinan ini yang membuat jantung lebih sehat saat mandi sauna. **#Sumber#**
